Inter-agency coordination in the field of sound chemicals management mostly occurs through the Inter-Organization Programme for the Sound Management of Chemicals (IOMC). As a first time initiative of IOMC, an inter-agency meeting on chemicals management took place on 10 May 2016 in Geneva, with non-IOMC UN organizations present, including UNECE.

Furthermore, there is the Environmental Management Group/Issue Management Group (EMG/IMG) on Sound Management of Chemicals and Wastes coordinated by UNEP, which has issued the report United Nations and the Sound Management of Chemicals.

The report signals the importance of sound chemicals management to the broader sustainable development agenda, showcases what has already been accomplished, and indicates how the UN system can further assist Member States in achieving sound chemicals management in the context of sustainable development.
